Steve Yzerman is synonymous with the Detroit Red Wings. After all he was a first round pick for the Wings in the 1983 draft and has remained there ever since. In his 18th season as captain, Yzerman is the longest serving captain in NHL history. He has earned three Stanley Cup championships and became one of only three players to win both the Stanley Cup and Olympic gold in the same year in 2002. He won the Bill Masterton Memorial Award in 2003, which honors the player who most exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
